  • People always communicate their ideas, feelings, or opinions through conversation. Conversation is the way to deliver the speakerÂ’s meaning. This study concerns with the discussion of the speakerÂ’s meaning, particularly the second dimension of speech acts that is illocutionary acts in Inkheart movie. This study was intended to find out: (1) sentences type, (2) kinds of direct illocutionary acts, and (3) kinds of indirect illocutionary acts used by main characters in Inkheart movie. The descriptive qualitative was the research design of this study. The object of this study was the utterances between the main characters in Inkeart movie. The instruments used in this study were non-participant observation and documentation. The result showed that declarative, interrogative and imperative sentences were three sentences type used by the main characters in Inkheart movie. Statement were in the form of declarative sentences. Questions were in the form of interrogative sentences. Directives (orders, requests, warning and suggestions) were in the form of imperative sentences. They were the direct illocutionary acts used by the main characters in Inkheart movie. Besides that, predictions, questions, offers, promises, refusals, and directives (orders and suggestions) were the form of declarative sentences. Suggestions and requests were in the interrogative form. Questions were in the imperative form. They were the indirect illocutionary acts used by the main characters in Inkheart movie. This study only examines the kinds of direct and indirect illocutionary acts in daily conversation between father and daugher in a family movie. Hence, other studies are still needed to give additional information in the use of illocutionary acts in other movie genres such as in actions, thriller etc.
