  • Novel, poetry, short story, and drama are parts of literary works. By learning them, we can take the messages about the life in the stories; since literature is a picture of humanÂ’s life that is written with beautiful language and interesting style. Film is a part of literary work that has the story about humanÂ’s life and experience. And also film is a good media to deliver the message of the life. It has a lot of interesting aspects that we could learn from film, one of them is the struggle that done by the main character, Grenouille. The main purpose of this study is to answer the problems. (1) Why did Grenouille struggle to get his ambition? (2) How did Grenouille struggle to get his ambition? (3) What were the effects of GrenouilleÂ’s struggle? This study uses descriptive because the object of the study is film which is rich with description of the people, place, action, and dialogue. And the approach used in the study is objective approach, because the researcher did not study about anything related about authorÂ’s life. Furthermore, the data are taken from script and screenshot of the Perfume “The Story of a Murderer” film by Tom Tykwer. The result of analysis found that (1) Grenouille struggled to get his ambition because he was interested in the perfume and the scent of a girl. (2) There are two ways of struggle that Grennouille did; the first was physical struggles when Grenouille learned about preservation and his series of murder to collect the scent of the girl, and the second was mental struggles when Grenouille showed his patience to Baldini and felt the regret of himself. (3) The effects that Grenouille caused after doing his struggle was satisfaction from himself because his ambition was fulfilled and fear for the people of Grasse.
