  • Facebook is one of the the examples of social media. Facebook is social networking site (SNS) that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them or far away from them. There are some types of social media which can be analyzed such as, microblogging, wikis, blogs, forums, etc. The purrpose of this tudy is to know the types and the meaning of code mixing used by users to update status on Facebook. The research design which was used in this study was descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the study was code mixing used by users to update status on Facebook. The userss were selected as the subjects of the study because they often used code mixing to update status. The research instrument of this research is the writer his self. To collect the data, the researcher was helped observation and documentation. The data were the update status of users. The finding of this study was divided into two. The first was the types of code mixing used by users to update status on Facebook. They were insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. The second was the meaning of code mixing used by the users. In conclusion, code mixing was used by some of the users in their update status. Almost all of the the type of code mixing was used when they wrote an update status. The purpose was that they wanted to show their expression to others.
