  • Literature is kind of art, written to offer pleasure illumination and satisfaction. By creating a literature, everyone can express their feeling, thought, and emotion. By learning the literary work, people can get the description of the social life of a certain time and are able to get information or knowledge of many kinds of human characters. Film is one of literary works which is taken as the object of study. It is because film presents the real life such as conflict, society, language, and other aspects of life. Film, one of literary works, gives not only pleasure to the audience but also a valuables lesson and information about society and life. Those are the points why it is strongly interesting to analyze literary especially film. This study focused on Dre parkerÂ’s bravery in “Karate kid” film by Harald Zwart. There were three statements of problems in this study. Those were (1) what is Dre parkerÂ’s bravery in “Karate Kid” film? 2) What are Dre ParkerÂ’s reasons for having bravery in “karate kid” film? (3) How does Dre Parker do bravery in “karate Kid” film? This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research design. It was used because it was intended to find out the kinds of Dre parkerÂ’s bravery who is brave to face the humiliating his new friends in “karate Kid” film. Furthermore, this research used objective approach because the researcher only got the data by watching the film to identify the bravery done by Dre Parker in “Karate kid” film by Herald Zwart. The result of the analysis showed that there were two kinds of bravery found in the film consisting of physical bravery and emotional bravery. In physical bravery, DreÂ’s bravery covered (1) in fighting with Cheng in the park, (2) in getting back Cheng, and (3) in fighting with Cheng in the tournament. In emotional bravery, DreÂ’s bravery was DreÂ’s willingness to fight in injured condition. For the reasons of DreÂ’s bravery, it was found either in physical bravery or in emotional bravery. In physical bravery, some reasons of DreÂ’s bravery were (1) to demand his right, (2) to get back Cheng who embarrassed Dre, and (3) to join the tournament to fulfill Mr. LiÂ’s challenge. In emotional bravery, DreÂ’s reason was to conquer his fear. For the DreÂ’s ways to get bravery, it was found either in physical bravery or in emotional bravery. In physical bravery, there were three ways done by Dre. (1) He fought back Cheng in the park as he could. (2), Dre used dirty water to get back Cheng, (3) Dre maximized the Kung Fu that he learned from Mr. Han and imitated from a girl who conquered a cobra. In emotional, the DreÂ’s way to get bravery was by conquering his painful leg by kept fighting.
