  • In recent years, learning which tends to cultivate learnersÂ’ responsibility on their learning goal emerges as an interesting field of study. It is expected that the end product of education is an autonomous learner. Thus, cultivating a learnerÂ’s autonomy should be regarded as the end goal that the teachers or educators try to pursue. In addition, this study was intended to know the lecturerÂ’s perceptions on autonomous learning at English Department University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This study employed descriptive quantitative design. The researcher used structured questionnaire to collect data on perception. The questionnaire was constructed using Likert type scaling. Moreover, the result of the study showed that there was 58.62% positive perception on autonomous learning in the classroom of lecturers who had taught at English Department in even semester of academic year 2010/2011 and taught again in odd semester of academic year 2011/2012 respectively. On the other hand, the negative perception was 41.38%. Conclutionally, the perception of the lecturers on autonomous learning in the classroom at the English Department of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang was possitive.
