- Error is the term used for the flawed side of learner speech or writing. Errors may occur as students learn English as second language. Among three other skills in English, error in writing skill is the most potential one to occur since writing is known as the most complex skill in English. This study is aimed to find and analyze the errors made by students of SMAN 1 Malang in writing recount text. It answered the following research problems: 1) What kind of errors made by students in writing recount text? 2) How is the frequency of every kind of errors? The purpose of this study are to find the kinds of errors; and the frequency of every kind of errors made by students of SMAN 1 Malang in writing recount text. It used a qualitative document analysis design. The document analyzed is the recount text written by the students of SMAN 1 Malang. The result of this study showed that: First, there were 8 kinds of errors found in recount texts made by the students. They are: (1) Omission errors, (2) Double markings errors, (3) Regularization errors, (4) Simple addition errors, (5) Archi-form errors, (6) Alternating errors, (7) Misordering errors, (8) Pronunciation errors. Second, every kind of errors has different frequency. (1) The frequency of Omission errors was 53.4%. (2) The frequency of Double markings errors was 5.7%. (3) The frequency of Regularization errors was 2.8%. (4) The frequency of Simple addition errors was 25.2%. (5) The frequency of Archi-form errors was 1.1%. (6) The frequency of Alternating forms errors was 7.1%. (7) The frequency of Misordering errors was 1.7%. (8) The frequency of Pronunciation errors was 2.8%. The most dominant errors occur in recount text made by students is Omission errors.
