- This study was aimed to determine the effects of ethanol extract tonic of red and white ginger rhizome in the male mouse and to compare the effects of red and white ginger rhizome tonic toward the giving of ethanol extract by using forced swimming test to the male mouse. This study was a laboratorium experimental by applying Forced Swimming Test. Forced Swimming Test is a test used to determine how long the endurance of a mice can swim. The mouse used in this study were divided into eight groups with 4 mouse in each group. For group I, the negative control was given CMC-Na 0,5%. For group II, the positive control caffeine was given and for group III-VIII, red and white ginger were given in the different doses which 0.49g/20gBB, 0.96g/20gBB, 1.96 g/20gBB. The swimming test was conducted three times; were on the first day, third day, and fifth day. Then, the struggling duration of mouse were analyzed by using Least Significant Different. The result of analysis showed that red ginger rhizome can increase the stamina of mouse with 1.96g/20gBB of concentration. Keywords: Tonic., Alpinia purpurata K. Schum., Forced Swimming Test.
