  • Meatball is one of products resulted from livestock which is highly nutritious and popular in society. Borax is often misused as a preservative and tenderizer in some food products. The presence of borax in foods can give bad effects on health, hence there should be an analysis of suspicious foods containing borax. In this study the content of borax in beef meatball at six elementary school in sub-district Bangil – Pasuruan had been identified. Meatball sample was blended and mixed with limewater, and then destructed by Bunsen flame to ashes. Residue was then added with HCl, filtered, and the presence of borax was identified by flame test and turmeric paper test. The result showed that there was only one of the six samples containing borax. From this finding, it is recommended that food additives knowledge should be given to the pupil held by the school and to home industry by the district health office, to prevent them from hazardous substances.
