  • The successfulness of revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt canÂ’t separated from the significant role of military. The presence and role of military is also seen in post-revolution and the election perform in both of countries. This research compares the military involvement in democratic transition at Tunisia and Egypt. The military involvement refers to three phase namely revolution, post-revolution, and election. This research used comparative analysis method with civil-military relations perspective. Indicator to compare of military involvement is indicated in three main components: attitude, position, and role of military in every phases. To compare the military involvement in both of countries, this research used type of praetorianism and the model of civil-military relations. The results of this research is the type of military involvement in Tunisia is moderator praetorian because military didnÂ’t take a power and not involve in day to day politics. Meanwhile, the type of military in Egypt is guardian praetorian because the military authorized the government and involved widely in politics area. The type of these praetorianisms constructed the model of civil-military relations in Tunisia is democratic competitive and in Egypt to be military oligarchy. Moreover, democratic transition in Egypt tends to be complexities because of position and role of military were powerful. Finally, based on this research found in Egypt was involving fourth phase of democratic transition beyond three phases from what Huntington reveal. This the second transition which the author found namely delayed democracy. This term refers to the situation that was indicated by the attitude of military was delay the power transition to civil.
