  • Borax is one of the ingredient that strictly prohibited based on Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan RI No 722/MenKes/Per/IX/1988. Borax contamination can causing a brain disorder, liver, kidney and even causing death. This research was aimed to prove if there was any borax contamination in puli crackers, that been sold in the traditional market in Malang. The sample of puli crackers that been observed were bought from 20 seller at 5 different markets, i.e. Blimbing, Sukun, Mertojoyo, Baru dan Induk Gadang. The sample were tested with flame method and curcumin paper. The positive results of borax contamination was shown by green color in a flame method and red color in a curcumin paper method. The results showed that six out of 20 seller, at the traditional market in Malang sold puli crackers those were positively containing borax.
