  • Teaching English at vocational schools is challenging. The teachers needs teaching techniques to make the students understand and are interested in learning English. There are many kinds of teaching techniques that can be used to make English learning process effective and interesting. In this study, the writer wants to discover the kinds of the teaching techniques used by the English teacher in teaching English, the teaching technique application and the studentsÂ’ responses toward the teaching techniques used by the English teacher in teaching English. The design used in this study was a descriptive research design because it was designed to obtain information concerning the current status of phenomena and directed toward determining the nature of a situation as it exists at the time of the study. Meanwhile, the research tools used were observation check list, interview guideline and questionnaire guideline to gather the data on subjectÂ’s opinions, beliefs, and feelings in the situation. The finding showed that the teaching techniques used by the English teacher in SMK Muhmmadiyah 1 Kepanjen - Malang were lecture technique, drilling technique, demonstration technique, question-answer technique, and song technique. Based on the finding, the students indicated positive responses toward the teaching techniques used by the teacher in teaching English. It was known from questionnaire given to the students revealing that 50 (78%) students showed positive responses. The students enjoyed the lesson by using those five teaching techniques and interested in getting more lesson from the teacher. From those five teaching techniques, the most preferred technique by the students was lecture technique. It was indicated by 53 (82.9%) as the highest percentage of students who showed very positive response with lecture technique, while the least preferred technique by the students was song technique. It was showed by 44 (69.8%) students who preferred the song technique.
