- Novel is one of literary works that often illustrates the situation of humanÂ’s life. Through novel, people may learn everything about humanÂ’s life included humanÂ’s problem and endeavor to solve the problem of life that is showed by the character of the novel. A desire to change something will not be reached if there is no endeavor to do the change. This situation of life can be seen in Jodi PicoultÂ’s novel “My SisterÂ’s Keeper”. This novel tells about a girl, named Anna who does many endeavors to be an obedient daughter for her mother and sister. This research focused on the AnnaÂ’s endeavor to be an obedient daughter, the reasons to be obedient daughter and the effect of AnnaÂ’s endeavor to be an obedient daughter on Jodi PicoultÂ’s novel “My SisterÂ’s Keeper”. Descriptive qualitative design was applied to this research because it was intended to describe Anna’s endeavor to be obedient daughter on the novel of “My Sister’s Keeper”. The researcher used this design with emphasize on the conflict resolution of the main character related to the endeavor to be an obedient daughter. In this study, objective approach is used by the writer because the writer would like to study about the novel itself especially the endeavor done by the main character in the novel “My Sister’s Keeper” without studying the life of the author. The researcher took the data from the paragraph and dialogue in the novel. The data were analyzed by collecting the proofs through a dialogue or paragraph in the novel related to the endeavor of the main character to be an obedient daughter, the reasons and the effect of the endeavor to be an obedient daughter. The outcome of the research shows that Anna sacrificed many parts of her body for her sister to keep her sister’s alive. The reason of her endeavor was that because she knows the reason of her birth is to be a donor for her sister and keep her alive. From her whole endeavor, Anna got good and bad effects in her life. The good one is that she could make her mother realizes about the importance of Anna’s life. Anna also got the effect in which she had to hurt herself just to make her sister alive and sometimes she became frustrated.
