  • Literature is a performance in words. Literature has its own artistic quality to string the words into a beautiful work and introduces people to the new world of experience which makes them grow and evolve through the journey of reading the literary works. Gender is socio-cultural construction which determines an individual as a male or female. Gender and culture are attached one another and distinguish the different roles between both sexes. Gender inequality is an imbalance situation between male and female concerning with their rights, opportunity and status, which leads to injustice and causes disadvantages toward one gender. This study focused on describing the kinds of gender inequality on Princess Sultana found in the novel “Princess: A Secret behind the Veil” and analyzing the causes and the effects of gender inequality on Princess Sultana’s life. This study applied the descriptive qualitative research because the data obtained from this study was in the form of words which have been taken from description, analysis, and interpretation.Moreover, the approach used in this study was objective approach. The researcher did not need to analyze the author’s life, background of study, and did not need to investigate the social background of the author. The results of this study can be concluded as: (1) The kinds of gender inequality found in the novel were marginalism and subordination.(2) The causes Princess Sultana gets gender inequality are family discrimination and male superiority. (3) The effects of gender inequality on Princess Sultana’s life were shown by each kind. The effect ofmarginalism was mainly expressed on the rebellion of Princess Sultana. Subordination showed two effects on Princess Sultana’s life; yearning for freedom and acquiring education.
