- Slow learners are students who have lower process learning in the class. According to Griffin (2005), slow learner is no different in appearance and can function normally in most situations. Bulman (2005) states that slow learners are students who are doing poorly in school. Therefore, the teacher must suit and develop their strategies and techniques in order to meet the educational needs of the slow learners. The researcher was interested in investigating this phenomenon as reflected in the title of this present study “A Study on The English Teacher’s Strategy in Teaching Vocabulary for The Slow Learners at SMPLB Bondowoso”. The purposes of the study are to know the strategies used by the English teacher and how the strategies work in teaching vocabulary for slow learners in SMPLB Bondowoso. In this present study, the subject was the English teacher who taught the Seven (VII) grade. Meanwhile, the instruments used to get the data of this present study were observation and interview. The result of this present study shows that the teacher used thirteen strategies in teaching vocabulary for the slow learners, for example as mention by Brendell and Aron (2011) such as; used of presentation, practice and consolidation, teaching vocabulary in context, scaffolding, make wordlist, oral presentation and model correct usage of language. The researcher also found the strategies used by the teacher such as; the used of personal approach adoption, used of pictures and look up the dictionary. This study hopefully can give contributions to enrich the strategies in teaching vocabulary especially for the slow learners.
