  • This research aimed at investigating the teaching strategies, the teachersÂ’ problems in implementing strategies, and the solutions used by the English teachers in teaching listening comprehension at SMA Tamansiswa (Taman Madya) Malang. The research design used was descriptive qualitative. The subjects were two English teachers of SMA Tamansiswa (Taman Madya) Malang. Based on the result of data analysis, teacher A used four kinds of strategies. They were drill and practice strategy, imaginative strategy, media strategy, and group discussion strategy. Teacher B used three kinds of teaching strategies. They were drill and practice strategy, media strategy, and group discussion strategy. The teacher A used the strategies as same electively as the teacher B, but they used these strategies in different frequency of the occurrence in each meeting. The teachers found many problems in implementing those strategies. In media strategy teachers got problem with listening laboratory because the equipment sometimes did not work properly, in drill and practice strategy students were still confused by the new vocabulary and they had difficulty to do the task after listening. Besides, the teachers also had solutions to solve their problems in implementing those strategies. In media strategy, the teacher had consulted with the headmaster of SMA Tamansiswa (Taman Madya) Malang to rejuvenate the existing listening laboratory. In drill and practice strategy, the teacher asked the student to write vocabularies that they found while listening. In the next meeting, the teacher gave some questions randomly to the students about vocabularies.
