- Teaching English to young learners is different from teaching English to adult learners. In teaching English to young learners, the teacher should consider to the young learnersÂ’ characteristics that easy to get bored but very active. To deal with young learnersÂ’ characteristics, the teachers should create interesting activities in order to attract the young learnersÂ’ willingness of studying and without being bored in the class. Therefore, one of the solutions offered in teaching English to young learners in order to help the teacher is by using media. The use of media in teaching and learning process is very important because media can deliver the message clearly in order to make the students catch and comprehend the material easily. Besides, media can motivate and arouse the studentsÂ’ interest in learning English. Therefore, the purpose of this study were (1) to know the media used by the teacher in teaching English (2) to know how the teacher used the media in teaching English, and (3) to know the studentsÂ’ responses toward the media used by the teacher in teaching English for young learners. This study used descriptive qualitative research design. The subject of this study was an English teacher and the students of B1class at TK Anak Saleh Malang. To collect the data, the researcher used observation and interview as her instruments. The data gathered were analyzed through the following steps, namely: identifying, classifying, analyzing, describing, and drawing the conclusion. It was found that the teacher used visual media namely: picture and flashcards. The way the teacher used the media were: the teacher showed the picture of food and the flashcard of animal to the students, the teacher asked the students to guess and match based on the picture, and the teacher gives the example of how to pronounce and imitate the vocabulary. The studentsÂ’ responses toward the media used by the teacher in teaching English could be shown by their interest, enthusiasm, and active participation in joining the lesson.
