- Everyone uses language to communicate each other. In other words, language is a tool of communication.Besides, language and society cannot be separated each other because they have close relation. Then, social and languange are part of linguistics knowledge. This subject is called “Sociolinguistics”. One of the content topics in sociolinguitics is code mixing. Code mixing is a communication strategy used by bilingual which the speaker of one language L1 transfer element or rules of different language Lt to L1 (the base language) ; unlike borrowing, however, this element is not integrated into linguistic system of L1. Thisresearch was aimed to give a description of code mixing phenomenon which occured in the utterance of a teacher in HEC (Hidayatullah English Course) Bangkalan when he delivered the lesson in class. This research was intended to help the students of English Department comprehend the code mixing phenomenon in teaching learning process. The statement of the problem formulated to find out the forms of code mixing used by the teacher of HEC in Bangkalan, and what are the factors influencing the teacher in using code mixing when he delivered the lesson in class. The type of research was descriptive qualitative research, and the subject of this study was the teacher of HEC in Bangkalan.The writer used observation and interview as the instruments to collect the data. The writer recorded the teacher’s speech when he taught in class and he was given some questions by the writer based on the statement of the problem.Then, the writer analyzed the data based on sociolinguistic framework analysis. The writer classified the data based on word, phrase, clause, reduplication, hybrid, and idiom. As a result, this study found threeof six utterances consisting of words, phrases, and clauses.Besides, it was found four factors influencing the teacher used code mixing when he delivered the lesson in class. The factors were; habitual factor, message-intrinsic factor, teacher’s purpose (explaining factor), and the student’s influence (situational factor). In summary, the writer concluded that an Englishteacher in courses used code mixing. Code mixing happened while the teacher explained the material of lesson because the students did not understand well if the teacher was using full of English in teaching learning process.
