- Slang is the existence of a new vocabulary and its meaning that is created from a word by a certain group of society related to their need in social communication. This study focused on analyzing slang expressions used by Jay-z’s song lyrics in the “Blue Print 3” album 2009. In particular, it was intended to analyze the slang expression, the kinds of slang expressions, and the meaning of slang expressions. This study used the descriptive qualitative research design in conducting this study because the data were collected in the form of words, not number. The object of the study was slang expressions found in the “Blue Print 3” song lyrics by Jay-z’s. The result of the study showed that there were 92 slang expressions used in the “Blue Print 3” song lyrics by Jay-z’s. The slang expressions included: 69 general slang expressions and 23 specific slang expressions. Moreover, two kinds of meaning (conceptual and contextual)were used to interpret the meaning of the slang expressions used in the “Blue Print 3” song lyrics by Jay-z’s.
