- This study is conducted to analyze the studentsÂ’ error in essay at fifth semester students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Specifically, this study is aimed at investigating the kinds of error and the most frequent error made by the students based on the four bases; 1) unity, 2) support, 3) coherence, and 4) sentence skills. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The writer used frequency counts during the data analysis, but most of the part, the reports were descriptive. The subject of this study was the students in A class of fifth semester at English Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang who were taking Writing III as the subject. Furthermore, the data were in the form of studentsÂ’ essays. After analyzing the data based on the four bases, the result showed that the students made errors in unity, support, coherence, and sentence skills. Furthermore, the result also showed that sentence skills is the most frequent error made by the students of the fifth semester in A class at English Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang with 66,67%, the second was coherence with 14,29% followed by unity with 9,52%, and support with 9,52%.
