  • Literature means the productions of written works having excellence of form of expression and dealing with ideas of permanent interest. One the literary works is novel. Novel is a long work of narrative prose fiction. Because of its length, a novel can picture life with all of its richness, complexity, and contradiction. The objective of this study was 1) to know the struggles that have been done by Aibileen in helping Negro women maidsÂ’ freedom in KathrynÂ’s novel ‘The HelpÂ’. 2) to know the reasons of her struggle in helping Negro women maidsÂ’s freedom, and 3) to know the effects of her struggle towards women Negro maids in helping their freedom in KathrynÂ’s novel ‘The HelpÂ’. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative research with the emphasis on the struggles of Aibileen as the main character in the novel “The Help”. In collecting the data, the researcher read and understood the novel, then chose data dealing with the problems. After the data being selected related to the purposes of the study, the writer rewrote all of the data which have been chosen based on the quotations in the novel. The result of this study showed that Aibileen had two struggles. First struggle was to invite other Negro maids. Second struggle was to prove the true story of Negro maids being discriminated. AibileenÂ’s reasons in helping Negro women maids were divided into four reasons. The first was she was always insulted by Hilly. The second was most of Negro maids got low salary. The third was Negro maids was discriminated in public facilities. The last reason was Negro maids were accused as the thief. The effects of AibileenÂ’s struggle were divided into two effects: Negative and positive. From the negative effects, Negro maids were threatened by white people, and most of Negro maids were fired by their masters. Meanwhile the positive effects were Aibileen got a new job, one of Negro maids was not fired by her masters, and many stores ordered books “The Help”
