- Sociolinguistics is the study of the relation between language and society. Sociolinguistics also discusses about language varieties. One of those language varieties is colloquial words. Colloquial words are words that are usually used in conversation, not in written form. This study focused on the English colloquial words found in Madonna’s song lyric in “MDNA” album. There are three problems that were analyzed: English colloquial words, word formation processes of the colloquial words, and the meaning of colloquial words found in Madonna’s song lyric in the ‘MDNA’ album. This study used qualitative research design because the data were in a non numerical form. They were collected in the form of words not in the form of numbers like in experimental research. The object of this study was the colloquial words in song lyric from “MDNA” album by Madonna. The result of this study showed that there were 58 colloquial words found in Madonna’s song lyric in “MDNA” album. Then, regarding the result of the data analysis on the word formation processes of colloquial words, there were three kinds of word formation processes in accordance with the existing theory, they were 6 blendings, 17 clippings, 33 clitics. Furthermore, there were some colloquial words which did not belong to the existing theory of word formation processes, they were 2 changing letters. Moreover, there were two kinds of meaning (contextual and conceptual) of the colloquial words used in the song lyrics.
