Moreover, this present study is able to answer the studentsÂ’ expectation of ideal English speaking teacher in speaking class, because sometimes the students do not get the teacher who is suitable with their needs. For that purpose, survey design under quantitative approach was applied, because the researcher wanted to investigate in detail about the studentsÂ’ perception by administering a survey to the sample of the population, and then collect the quantitative data in the form of numbers by using questionnaire, so the result can represent the entire group of population. This research was conducted at University of Muhammadiyah Malang, academic year 2013-2014. This study involved fifty four eight semester of English Department students as the respondents. The researcher analyze the data by classifying the answers and arranging the data in form of table then counting the percentage of the result and grouping it based on the IELTS assessment criteria in speaking skill; fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, pronunciation, and teaching behavior. The result showed that the English Department students gave positive respond about the attitudes of NEST and NNEST in teaching English. The students believe that both NESTs and NNESTs have good competence in teaching English, but majority of the students prefer NESTs because NESTs teach more about English cultures, also the students think that NESTs are the real teachers, because they were born with English as their mother tongue. In addition, the students like to listen to their accent when they speak English.
