- Culture is owned by every group or community in the society. It represents the identity of each group which is very various. The diversity of cultures exists in the society with their uniqueness. With their culture, the people can be different in rituals, behaviours, attitudes, beliefs, etc. Therefore, there is an assumption that oneÂ’s own culture is superior than other culture which is called ethnocentrism. Danny BoyleÂ’s film Slumdog Millionaire is chosen object because it contained ethnocentrism and it told the boy who lived in slums become a millionaire whereas he had limited educational background. Therefore, ethnocentrism in this film is interesting to analyze. The purposes of the study were to know ethnocentrisms found in Danny BoyleÂ’s film Slumdog Millionaire and to know the impacts of ethnocentrisms on characters in Danny BoyleÂ’s film Slumdog Millionaire. The research design of this study was qualitative research because this study deals with social phenomena, in this case ethnocentrism, contained in a film Slumdog Millionaire. The data were also not gathered in numeric form nor analyzed statistically, but the data were descriptive data. The results of this study showed that there were three kinds of ethnocentrism in this film, namely: ethnocentrism in religion, in custom, and in language. Hindu people were described as more superior than Moslems in this film. That was the proof which indicated ethnocentrism in religion. Ethnocentrism in custom was indicated by the fact that the host was ethnocentric that he suspected Jamal cheated because how a tea server could have knowledge to answer the questions in the quiz and did not believe that a low caste Indian could work in a call center except as low worker. While ethnocentrism in language was indicated by the fact that the call center that Jamal worked did not allow to speak other languages except English and Jamal spoke English in Indian accent which was disliked by English woman. The ethnocentrisms described in this film brought some impacts, namely: conflict, violence and humiliation. It can be concluded that Slumdog Millionaire film is the film which describes ethnocentrism. India is considered inferior and English is described superior. It is also presented in this film that Moslems are necessary killed because they are being hostile. From the facts which were analyzed, this film reflected the fact which occurred in the society.
