- Writing is the most difficult subject because it requires other components to support it, such as: grammar, vocabulary, mechanics, style.. Therefore, in writing course, there are some difficulties faced by the students. They tend to make such kind of errors in grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Error in written language will be misleading if it happens in writing the thesis. The purpose of this study was to describe kinds of error and the most dominant errors made by fourth grade students of University Muhammadiyah Malang in writing argumentative paragraph. This study used descriptive qualitative design because this study described phenomenon being studied as it naturally happened to find out the grammatical errors and to describe the most frequent error from all types made by the fourth semester students of English department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The results of this study showed that there were errors made by students related to Subject Verb Agreement, Transition Signal and Sentence Fragment. The errors which were categorized as Subject Verb Agreement consisted of basic subject verb. The errors which were categorized as Transition Signal consisted of clause connector using coordinating conjunctions. The errors which were categorized as Sentence Fragment consisted of missing subject fragment, add detailed fragment, -ing and to fragment, and no main or independent clause. Subject Verb Agreement about basic subject verb was categorized as Surface Strategy Taxonomy and Communicative Effect Taxonomy. Transition Signal was categorized as Communicative Effect Taxonomy. Sentence Fragment was categorized as Surface Strategy Taxonomy. The most dominant errors which were made by fourth grade students of University Muhammadiyah Malang in writing Argumentative paragraph was errors in the Subject Verb Agreement about basic subject verb. After knowing the result of the study, it can be concluded that in writing argumentative paragraph, the students often made errors especially errors in subject verb agreement.
