  • This study was focused on the difficulties in doing apprenticeship at housekeeping department in hotels faced by Business English students in English Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Therefore, it had two purposes, they were: (1) to know the difficulties in doing apprenticeship at housekeeping department in hotels faced by Business English students in English Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang; and (2) to know the ways how the students solve the difficulties in doing it. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative because it was intended to describe the difficulties in doing apprenticeship at housekeeping department in hotels faced by Business English students of English Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang and how the students solve the difficulties in doing it. This study used population research because it took all of 25 students who did the apprenticeship at housekeeping department in hotels for research subjects; they were all joined the Business English II or apprenticeship on seventh semester in 2013/2014 academic year. Meanwhile, for the instrument, the writer used a questionnaire and an interview as the tools for collecting the data. Rating scale was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that there were four difficulties in doing apprenticeship at housekeeping department in hotels faced by Business English students in English Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang and there were three ways which were used by students to solve the difficulties. The difficulties were: (1) the students did not know what to do in hotels; (2) there was no one to guide them when working in hotels, so that they were afraid in making mistakes to do something; (3) the students lack material when joining the Business English class; and (4) the students did not like rough work. The studentsÂ’ ways to face the diffulties were: (1) the students asked for some guidance from one of employees who works at housekeeping department in hotels to do some jobs; (2) the students preferred to learn by themselves by reading some books and accessing internet to get some additional information related to housekeeping department in hotels because lack of material and knowledge which was given during the class; and (3) the students asked to their friends about the jobs.
