- This research aimed at identifying the figurative language in the novel of “Two Little Girls in Blue” written by Mary Higgins Clark. The analysis is limited only for the minor characters, Margaret Frawley and Angie Ames. This novel was chosen because it has a captivating story about the kidnapping against the twin who have a twin telepathy. Figurative language is a language that has distinct interpretation from its literal meaning by using comparison and exaggeration to create a special effect on readers and to make the language more interesting and artistic. Novel is one of the literary works which often uses figurative language to make the language beautiful and to attract the readers’ attention. The research design used in this study was descriptive qualitative, because the object of the study was in the form of verbal narratives and it only described the object without making of treatment and hypothesis. Then the approach employed was objective approach; it analyzed the novel purely as the literary work without involving the author’s background and the environment surrounding. The researcher was the instrument and the data collector in this study. The data collection and data analysis were based on the utterances used by the minor characters in the novel “Two Little Girls in Blue”. Based on the result of the data analysis, it was found that there are 9 (nine) kinds of figurative languages found in the novel of “Two Little Girls in Blue” that used by the minors characters. They are 7 (seven) personifications, 19 (nineteen) hyperboles, 18 (eighteen) metaphors, 1 (one) synecdoche, 4 (four) understatements, 2 (two) allegories and 4 (four) similes, 2 (two) symbols, and 1 (one) irony. In total, there are 58 (fifty eight) figurative languages under investigation. Metaphor and hyperbole were used frequently by the Margaret Frawley and Angie Ames especially hyperbole because the author wanted to use the words that compared one to another and to overstate the statement to emphasize the meaning. They were used to describe the circumstances and deep feeling of the characters during the kidnapping vividly.
