  • The bilingual program is one of the important aspects to improve learning English in Indonesia. The bilingual students have to prepare themselves more in understanding materials, compare to reguler students. The strategy in teaching bilingual class has significant role. It helps students to comprehend the material in the classroom. The purpose of this study is to find out the teaching strategies used by the teacher to encourage studentsÂ’ participation in bilingual class. A strategy in teaching English is very important to apply in bilingual class to increase the studentÂ’s participation. The research design of this study was descriptive research. The resarcher used two ways to collect the data; observation and interview. In addition, the subject of study was the English teacher who taught in the second grade of bilingual program at SMP Laboratorium School Universitas Negeri Malang. It was found two teaching strategies used by the English teacher in the class; expository strategy and inquiry strategy. The teacher implemented those strategies during the learning process. Sometimes, the teacher combined both strategies in her teaching process. Combining some teaching strategies made the teaching and learning activities more interesting for the students. Most students were interested in inquiry strategy than other strategies. They showed a great attention when teacher played a game after delivering some materials.
