- Motivation is very important for students because it will improve their study. Students who are motivated in studying are influenced by intrinsic factors. Based on the consideration above, it is very important to know the kinds of intrinsic factors of English Department Students that motivated them to take EYL course. This study used descriptive qualitative research because the purpose of this study was to know the kinds of intrinsic factors that motivated students in taking EYL course. The subject of this study was the sixth semester students who are taking EYL course. This study used unstructured questionnaire as the instrument to collect the data. The result of this study shows that curiosity and interest (94.34%) was the most dominant factor that influence the English students in taking EYL course because EYL is a more interesting subject than other elective courses and specific class that gives knowledge about how to teach English for young learners. Meanwhile, the lower factor was learned helplessness (13.21%) since they feel that they did not have a good ability in other elective courses and they thought that the other elective courses were boring. It can be concluded that curiosity and interest have big influence for the English students in taking EYL course than other intrinsic factors.
