  • Background: Grievance on gastrointestinal tract syndrome was generally happened among students. The gastrointestinal syndrom increase the lose of bowel frequency and loosing stool,tumultuous intestines, nauseous, vomit, weak, epigastric pain, and lack for body liquid (dehydration). Some complaints mentioned were the effect of bad dietary habits, postponing dietary habits and consuming fast food and snack. This study aimed to know the correlation between food consumption and grievance on gastrointestinal tract syndrome. Research Method: This study used descriptive correlative method with cross sectional research design that emphasizes time measuring at certain period. Data analysis was done by using Pearson Correlation testand stratified random sampling technique. Numbers of population were 1988 students of Faculty of Health Science University of Muhammadiyah Malang, with sample 333 respondents. Result: The finding showedon low gastrointestinal tract syndrome withbad dietary habits as many (0.9%), enough dietary habits as many (4.8%), good dietary habits as many (9.0%). Meanwhile,syndrom on medium gastrointestinal tract with bad food consumption were(10.2%), enough dietary habits (49.2%), good dietary habits (2.4%). Students syndrome on gastrointestinal tract with bad dietary habits were(10.2%), enough dietary habits (12.3%), good dietary habits (0.9%). The analysis result of Pearson Correlation test with significance level 0,05 was obtainedr = -0,624 < 0,05.This mean there was correlation between dietary habits and gastrointestinal tract syndrome when studentsÂ’ food consumption was bad, they would syndrome ongastrointestinal tract. Discussion: Dietary habitsis a way to arrange the quantity and kind of food to maintain healthand nutrition. It also prevented or to helpcuring diseases. Someonewith good dietary habits would not experience syndrome on gastrointestinal tract.
