- Language plays the important role in society as means as communication. Realizing the importance of English in the international world, in many situations, the Indonesian people learn and use a switch of two languages; they are English and Indonesian language in communicating. Code switching as the alternation between two or more languages or varieties of a language in the same utterance or dialogue. The reason behind using of two languages because it becomes a trend among people in the world and also wants to show the linguistic skills. The phenomena of the various languages also could increase the status in society especially for young people. The aims of this research are to analyze the code switching used, the type and the function of code switching for investigating the purpose of the host in Break Out TV show. This research was displayed through the descriptive qualitative in collecting the data and the document analysis employed in the research instrument. The data in this study was taken from Indonesian TV show by via downloaded on YouTube in the Break Out at NET TV with the topic of friendzone because the topic of this episode discussed about the activity of relationship in the society. The data is specified to the words and sentences out in conversation that containing code switching only. The result of the analysis showed a great number of the code switchings used, the types and functions of code switching are seemingly on the selected data. Based upon the types, the inter-sentential code switching was mostly occurred, since they speak English fluently. Metaphorical switching cannot be found in this analysis. In this TV show also found six function of code switching. In this situation, the phenomena of code switching happens automatically as the bilingual people are able to use more than one language. In addition, there is also interesting phenomenon of code switching occurred in this analysis as variation of the words, which attached by either affix or suffix. In the other hands, the words cannot be translated, even if it is translated, it can produce unfamiliar and uncommon words which are possibly away from intended meaning. Overall, it convinces us how fantastic in using code switching.
