  • This research aimed in studying the low achiever studentsÂ’ learning style in writing class of English Department at UMM. Learning style is the studentsÂ’ way in taking a lot of essential information of their learning. Every learner have their own set of learning styles which will be different with someone else. And the low achievers are students who have a great amount of difficulties meeting educational standards or have more difficulties in achieving passing marks. This research focused on investigating the learning styles the low achiever students use in writing class, the problems the low achiever students face in applying their learning styles, and the way the low achiever students solve their problems in applying their learning styles. This research used the descriptive qualitative research design since it was aimed at giving a deep description about the studentsÂ’ learning styles, their problems and their solutions in solving the problems in applying their own learning styles in writing class. The subject of this research were the students who categorized as low achievers. The researcher used the criteria of being low achievers was determined based on their midterm test score in the writing course, that is 60 and below. The population of this research were the students of I class in writing 2 subject, that consisted of 27 students. The writer took 7 students and used intensity sampling technique. The instrument that used to get data was interview, and observation. The result of this research showed that the low achievers in writing class employed various styles in learning writing such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic styles. Furthermore, the problems which were experienced by low achievers in writing class included: (1) lack of enthusiasm and motivation in learning activities (2) The students were easier to get bored because the monotonous activities in the class; (3) The class circumstance was noisy; and (4) The teacher was too fast in explaining the materials. In addition, the solutions employed by the low achievers in solving their problems included: (1) The students preferred to keep moving in learning activities; (2) The students making group discussion; and (3) The students preferred to search the additional references from the internet.
