- This study was conducted to find out the difficulties faced by the first gtrade of junior high school students in writing Descriptive text and the factors causes the difficulties faced by the first grade of junior high school in writing Descriptive text at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu. This research design used in this study was descriptive quantitative research design.Foranswering the first research problem, the researcher used the test as the instrument to know the difficulties in writing descriptive text. Meanwhile, for answering the second research problem, the researcher used the questionnaire to describe the factor that causes difficulties in writing descriptive text. The researcher found two results in this study. Firstly, it was found thatthe highest difficulty faced by the students was about the difficulties in arranging the sentence into a paragraph of descriptive text with 100% (25 students), then the second difficulty was using of tenses with 60% (15 students).Secondly, the researcher found that there werethe factors that cause the difficulties in writing descriptive texts include: a) Low Vocabulary Level, b) Confused to Arranged the vocabulary in sentences, c) Did not Understand the Material Well, d) Did not Pay Attention The Teacher Explanation, e) Low Motivation to Write / Study English.
