- Code mixing in languages is very common and strong among bilinguals the world over. Moreover, code mixing occurs in any form of communication events in oral or written language. Code mixing in the form of written language, for example, occurs in the status update writing on Twitter. Therefore, this research is aimed to identify the types of code mixing and to know types which frequently used of code mixing in status update on Twiter. This research used a qualitative research design because the researcher only described and interpreted phenomenon that existed in Twitter. The research objects were updated status of students Muhammadiyah Malang University on Twitter. To collect the data, the researcher used document to analyze the status update of students Muhammadiyah Malang University on Twitter. Then, the result of this study would be described in the form of descriptive qualitative. Based on the research findings, the researcher found five types of code mixing, they were seven code mixing in insertion pattern, two code mixing in alternation pattern, six code mixing in congruent lexicalization, ten code mixing in situational, and five code mixing in conversational. Besides, this research show that types of code mixing which frequently used in status update on Twitter is situational type. Moreover, the situational type that frequently used by the user because it depends on the experience done by the user.
