  • Effective learning is learning that can change the behavior of students which includes knowledge, reasoning, skills and habits. Learning of mathematics in schools carry out the achievement of two objectives namely (1) Establishment of a logical character learners, critical, rational, careful, effective and efficient and (2) implementation of the changes in everyday life and development of science. According to the writer's observation, most of the students of class VIII can not solve word problems with true and complete. It could even be said that the word problems is a problem in terms of ability to catch the meaning of the sentence or the ability to use settlement procedures. In addition, the implementation of a national exam that uses multiple choice questions can stimulate students to finish with a shortcut. This causes the students to do more and allergy problems that challenge the story and demanded a higher thinking. This study titled "Improving the Ability Complete Story of Fundamental Problems of Linear Equation Systems with Variable Step Two eighth grade students in Polya MTsM Nawangan". The purpose of this study to improve the ability of students of class VIII MTsM Nawangan Academic Year 2009/2010 in solving word problems on the material of Two Variable Linear Equation System through the use of Polya step. To enhance students' abilities in solving word problems is necessary to emphasize the use of procedural steps as recommended by George Polya namely to understand the issues, the settlement plan, implement the settlement plan and check the results obtained. This research was conducted in two cycles. In the first cycle shows that students' abilities in solving word problems Systems of Linear Equations of Two Variables not maximum. Percentage reaches 41.67% mastery learning. In the second cycle after the reflection and improvement, the result percentage reached 86.11% mastery learning. As such mastery learning skills increased 44.44%. From this study we concluded that through the use of Polya step, the ability of students of class VIII B MTsM Nawangan Academic Year 2009/2010 in solving word problems linear equation system in two variables can be improved. Finally it is suggested to the eighth grade math teacher MTsM Nawangan to be able to use Polya step in the learning associated with word problems so the students completed a systematic problem.
