  • Anopheles sp. mosquitos is biological vector of various diseases especially Malaria and Filariasis. Syntethic insecticides are effective but it could cause adverse effects to the environment such as micropollutant, developing the risk of resistency, and other effects that could harm human’s health. Natural insecticides was considered to be the alternative way due to its safety for the environment because its compound can breakdown easily example mint leaves. Mint leaves (Mentha sp.) containing menthol, limonene and another terpen. which is proven effective as insecticide against fleas, lices, and mites so it predicted has larvasidal potention against Anopheles sp. larvae. The purpose of the research was to determine the larvasidal effect of mint leaves (Mentha sp.) extract towards Anopheles sp. mosquitos. Extraction of mint leaves was done in Chemical Laboratory University of Muhammadiyah Malang on January 2010. The research was done in Insectiside Test Laboratory Disease Reservoir Vector Research Centre Salatiga, Centre Java on January 2010. This experiment was true experiment­post test only control group design and was repeated four times. The dosages used were 5.000, 10.000, 20.000, 40.000, 80.000, 160.000 ppm and aquadest (control). Observed at 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 24 hoursrespectively. Concentration of 160.000 ppm showed the most effective insecticide potency up to 100% at the 4 hours. Probit analysis showed the LD 50 and LD 90 for each observed time. The conclusion was mint leaves extract have larvasidal potency against Anopheles sp. larvaes on each extract concentration. Further studies should be done to examine the toxic dosage of mint leaves extract for human.
