  • Throughout the world, not a few cases of mental disorders that occur. In the year 2001, the WHO said at least 25% of world population was experiencing mental disorders and 40% of those patients are diagnose with wrong diagnostic. Researchers found that most cases of mental disorders that occur in individuals is often preceded by a depression that caused by psychological stress. There are psychological factors that cause psychological stress. This factor relates to the individual growth progress begins when the individual is born until adult. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between psychological factors with the occurrence of mental disorders in patients with mental disorders. The research method used in this research uses associative retrospective method with 50 respondents in mental health polyclinic of Dr. Radjiman Wediodiningrat?s Mental Hospital. Data was collected by distributing a questionnaire to be filled by the family of the patient, then the data in the tabulation and analyzed using SPSS 15 for windows with crosstab analysis of contingency coefficient C. From the results of research in getting that as many as 15 respondents (30%) stated that the patient gets a psychological disorders at low level, 30 respondents (60%) stated that patients gets a psychological disorders at moderate level and 5 respondents (10%) stated that the patient gets a psychological disorders at heavy level. Based on the analysis results obtained from analysis crosstab contingency coefficient C showed that the chi-square value = 21.623 and the count value table chi-square = 38.415. Because the chi-square count 21.623 <38.415 chi-square table, it can be concluded that there was no relationship between psychological factors with the occurrence of mental disorders.
