  • Depression is a mental problem most common in the elderly, since the introduction of mental health problems early is important, so that some disturbance of mental problems in the elderly can be prevented, eliminated or reversed. (Evy, 2008). Terminal illness is a disease where the level of pain has reached an advanced stage so that medical treatment can cure it is not possible anymore. Therefore, patients suffering from terminal illnesses should receive palliative care that is relieve the symptoms of disease, but does not work to heal. The elderly who have problems with his health or terminal illness of mental disorders among vulnerable cause depression, terminal illness is a disease that was diagnosed with a severe illness that can not be cured where the prognosis is death. This study aimed to identify levels of depression in elderly people with terminal illnesses. The study design was a descriptive, population in this study is the elderly who go to health centers that have a terminal illness and requested referral. Sampling method used was purposive in order to obtain the total sample of 16 respondents. Data collection techniques used were a questionnaire. Analysis of the data used summing the answers of each respondent, and the score was summed and then divided by the expected score and then multiplied by 100%. The survey results revealed that seven of 16 respondents (43.75%) experienced mild depression. Researchers hope this study can be used as teaching materials in providing nursing care to the elderly, especially elderly people who suffer from terminal illnesses.
