  • Language cannot be separated from human being. Language is efficient communication tool. In education, it is not only language skill is needed, but also well mannered speech of teachers in their interaction when teaching learning process occurs. It is conducted in order to smooth the process interaction of teaching learning process, because it is a media to transfer ideas and concepts. Well mannered speech by the teachers, especially Indonesian reflects the use of good and correct Indonesian. The study of well mannered speech is interesting to be conducted, because it gives description of well mannered speech of teachers in interaction of teaching learning process. Generally, this study has purpose to describe the use of well mannered speech in interaction of Indonesian teaching learning process in SMA Negeri 9 Malang. Especially, the purpose of this study is to describe (1) the function of speech in Indonesian teaching learning process interaction in class XI SMA Negeri 9 Malang and (2) to describe strategy of well mannered teachers in interaction of teaching learning process in class XI SMA Negeri 9 Malang. The method in this study is qualitative method. The subject of this study is Indonesian teachers in class XI SMA Negeri 9 Malang year of 2008-2009. Teachers that are the focus of this study are Dra. S.H. Retnowati, 49 years old. Data collection is conducted by 2 steps; it is the preparation of data collection and the implementation of data collection. The result of this study shows that Indonesian teachers in class XI SMA Negeri 9 Malang tends to uses competitive and convivial speech and uses positive manner strategy and minimizes the negative manner in communication and interaction of teaching learning process. Thereby, Indonesian teachers of class XI SMA Negeri 9 Malang have used well mannered speech in communication and be able to create supporting conditions for behavior change of students and create pleasant teaching learning process environment.
