- Background: At the age of 1-3 months the infant immune system has not fully developed, so that the baby depends on the intake of nutrients to fight infections and is beginning to achieve growth and optimal development of infants. Based on these problems, baby massage can be used as an alternative choice in increasing body weight. Baby massage can increase the tonus of the vagus (nerve 10th), the vagus nerve stimulates contraction of the stomach and intestines by increasing the hormone gastrin and insulin, so the absorption of food for the better. Good food absorption cause the baby to feel hungry sooner and more often the baby will suckle and can increase the baby's weight. Methods: Design studies that used the quasi Experimental. Samples are used each of ten respondents to the intervention group and control with two stage cluster sampling method. In the intervention group, the massage performed for 1 month with a frequency of one a week. Analysis of the data used is the independent t-test. Results: The results of analysis with independent t-test using the significant level is 0.05 p> 0.05 with a statistical test results obtained value of t = - 1.283 and p value (Sig. 2-tailed) = .216. Conclusion: It was concluded that there was no effect of baby massage on weight gain of infants aged 1-3 months. Researchers hope that further research can examine and analyze other factors that influence weight gain in addition to massage your baby, so it can be seen a more significant factor in increasing infant weight.
