Background: Custom of chew beetling habit is trusted has a function for health. Lime produces chemical substances which are useful as calmative for neural system in order to make a calm of thinking, but the custom of chew beetling which is did without nursing of teeth can cause the color of our teeth changing into red because the areca nut contains of approximately 15% of red tannin and lime which can cause calculus. That is way calculus can increase the risk of caries. Method: Design of research use cross sectional research. Sample in this research has numbered 77 respondents by using total sampling method. Analysis of data which used is chi square test and study of cross sectional (Ratio of prevalent). Result: The result of analysis with chi square test, by using the level of significant 0.05 is HO was denied because of X2 count > X2 (0.05)(1), so there is connection between chew beetling habit and caries of university student from Papua in Jatimulyo village. Otherwise, by using the study of cross sectional is resulted RP = 1.6 in order to ratio of prevalent >1 with the distance of believability interval are not including the number of 1, Conclusion: Researcher hope is for the next research would be done with large and complex population, so that the possibility of other causes of caries for the chewer of beetling can be known and handled by good way.
