- The increasing needs of sand and stone caused by increasing development. This condition caused more sand and stone miners in Brantas river. Minings in Brantas river should pay attention to river ecology since there are many miners have less attention to environment condition. Sand and stone mining is part of occupations done by people in Gunungsari village, Bumiaji sub-district Batu City. Recently. The work they can do is as sand and stone miners. They have less options to et other occupations since lack of skill they have. Before become miners, most of them have profession as farmers, builder and apple collectors. Most of miners still have care to keep their environment because of the knowledge they have. Research type done is qualitative descriptive aimed to give clear description about object related to the fact. Research location is done in Brantas river Gunungsari village, Bumiaji sub-district, Batu City. Data collection technique is by using observation, interview, and documentation. Research subject uses purpossive sampling technique. This research interviewed 10 informers who know about information as the researcher needs. Data analysis in this research uses qualitative data by using interactive analysis model. Theory used to analyzed this research is phenomenology theory from phenomena analysis figure Alfred Schutz. From all research, it is found: 1) the only work can be done right now is only as sand and stone miners; 2) Miners considered Brantas river as main livelihood; 3) knowledge found by miners makes them understand more to keep Brantas river condition since it is the source of life for miners; 4) Watery Department and Bina Marga institution already gave counseling about healthy mining which doesnÂ’t damage the environment annually; 5) once there was cooperation business unit which its purpose to make miners shift into meatball seller etc, but there are many inactive miners, so miners unit in cooperation is closed.
