  • VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is the latest technology that allows voice conversations remotely via internet. At the present time VoIP technology is not just using the Internet media alone, but has been able to use local networks such as WLAN (Wireless LAN). VoIP technology uses the WLAN is also called VoIP over WLAN. VoIP over WLAN technology requires an access point as a device that emits a microwave signal to be received by some clients to use wireless devices connected to each other. Client may be the smart phone or a PC that already has a wireless device. Also needed an application that will be used as user interface (user agent). To implement VoIP over WLAN systems at University of Muhammadiyah Malang is required some configuration setup SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) which functions as a VoIP protocol, application design that is used as a VoIP user management on the server side, and the configuration of bandwidth consumption will be provided. Because of bandwidth will affect the sound quality, so the ideal bandwidth required for telephone-quality sound is 64 Kbps. Implementation of VoIP over WLAN in University of Muhammadiyah Malang is expected to save costs also facilitate users who are in the area of the campus WLAN to communicate with each other and can also complement existing systems.
