- Determinant is an arrangement of elements which consist of row and column which has the same total. Determinant has an elements arrangement which is confined by vertical line . There are some methods used to determine the matrix determinants, they are Sarrus method, Minor-co factor method, Gaussian Elimination method, Matrix Decomposition method, and Pivotal Condensation method. The study of this thesis discuss about the one of the methods, Chio method, which is the development of Pivotal Condensation method. It is processed by decreasing one level of the order of matrix determinant until it gets the matrix determinant with 2×2 order and uses the element except a11. The use of Chio Method to determine the matrix determinants related with the choice of the focus (pivot). Furthermore, in the next step, it is done the elementary row operations so that the denomination of the element at the first row is 0 except the pivotal element, 1. Then, pivotal element is multiplied with its co factor. If the result of its co factor is negative, the column of matrix will be able to be exchanged with the other column in order to have a positive result of determinant. Furthermore, the final step of determinant calculation will be done by doing operation count for the equation above to get Chio Method’s formula. The result of this study states that by means of the element in the matrix row except a11 can be concluded from the use of Chio Method which is focused in each element in the first row (except element a11) of the matrix with order 3×3 and 4×4 that the denomination of a determinant of matrix can be found and that determinant does not change.
