- The process oh problem solving should not only to find the correct answer but also how the process to find the solution as a important thing. It is to know what student relly understand about the problem. The steps to increase the problem solving avility is meta cognition. Meta cognition is student awareness in thinking process that divided into four aspect, there are awareness aspect, cognitive strategy aspect, planning aspect, and reviewing aspect. The aim is to find how students meta cognition process in problem solving based on the four aspect ang gender. The experiment was conducted in SMA Panjura Malang class XI IPA 2. The collecting data use test sheet, questionnaire, and interview. Test was given once after students got function composition material, and then they did test and filled questionnaire. Interview was conducted forward 3 male students and 3 female students in advanced ability level, moderate, and low level. The result of this experiment are 1) the meta cognition process in awareness aspect forward male students got average score 3,54 hence included very good category, whereas the female students got average score 3,41 hence included good category; 2) the meta cognition process in cognitive aspect forward male students got average score 3,38 hence included good category, whereas the female students got average score 2,89 hence included middle category; 3) the meta cognition process in planning aspect forward male students got average score 3,1 hence included good category, whereas the female students got average score 3,04 hence included good category; 4) the meta cognition process in reviewing aspect forward male students got average score 2,6 hence included middle category, where are the female students got average score 2,94 hence included middle category.
