- API 5L-X65 steel pipe is made and manufactured based on the standard API (American Petroleum Institute). These pipes have carbon content of 0.26% which is classified in the medium carbon steel. Pipe of this type are usually made using submerged arc welding (SAW). Problems that often occur from the welded SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) API 5L-X65 steel pipe is the emergence of residual stress and microstructure of martensite caused by high cooling rate during welding. This may facilitate the occurrence of cracks resulting in lower ductility or toughness of welded joints. If dynamic work load on the welded joints, cracks will rapidly propagate and cause fracture. To overcome this problem, stress relief annealing heat treatment would be useful to increase weld toughness of the welded (SAW) on steel pipe API 5L-X65. The purpose of this research is to obtain the value of toughness of material to sudden load, hence by stress relief annealing treatment can give the best toughness of the welded (SAW) on steel pipe API 5L-X65. From the research impact test is concluded that the strees relief annealed at temperature of 700 oC provide toughness welds best with price impact 2.6525 J/mm2 on the test impact room temperature, compared with the strees relief annealing of 600 oC with price impact 2.06 J/mm2 at temperature test room temperature impact and strees relief annealing at 500 oC impact 2.1785 J/mm2 at room temperature impact testing. But the stress relief annealed 600 oC showed toughness is proportional value between the energy absorbed by price its impact
