  • The meta cognition means awareness of people think’s process. Meta cognition has a critical role in solving mathematical problems. This is because a person who has a good ability of meta cognition, it is possible also have a good ability in solving a problem. This study is aimed to determine and describe the meta cognitive skills possessed by the students based on gender differences. The study was conducted at SMP Negeri Atap Merjosari Malang in academic year 2012/2013. The research that is method used is descriptive qualitative research. Data collection method that is used was a test and interview. The instrument that is used in this study is questions test and interview guides. The result shows that there are differences between student’s meta cognitive abilities of male and female. Female students have meta cognitive abilities better than male students. The difference are obtained in planning stages and checking back.
