  • In social relation, language is very important as a means of communication. By language we can express our feelings, thoughts, emotions, and ideas. In other words, language is the medium to convey knowledge to others and to the next generation. Therefore, language has an important function as a vital tool in human life. This research is aimed to give description about Madurese dialect that is used in television news program. JTV, a private television station owned by Jawa Pos Group has one news program broadcasted in Madurese named “Pojok Meduroan”. This program is quite unique because it uses combination of Madurese dialects. This study was conducted based on this special characteristic of this news program and aimed at identifying and classifying the dialects. In this research, the writer used the descriptive research design. It was used to describe the Madurese dialects used in “Pojok Meduroan” Program. The object of this study was “Pojok Meduroan” Program. The writer took the program on July 4 until July 8, 2005 at 15.00 pm. In this research, the instruments used were cassettes, recorder, and television. Cassettes and recorder were used to record the programs. The research found that the Madurese dialects used in “Pojok Meduroan” Program on JTV are Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan, and Sumenep dialects. While, the Madurese dialects mostly used in “Pojok Meduroan” Program on JTV is Pamekasan dialect. The dialect which is borrowed from Indonesia words is mostly used in “Pojok Meduroan” Program on JTV, then the dialects used in all regions has the second place, and followed by dialect used in a particular area of Madura like Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan, and Sumenep dialects.
