- A learning method which still teacher-centered or even still uses conventional method can be the cause of the lack of students' understanding on mathematical concepts and understand the problem. It causes students to be passive, do not have the opportunity to discover themselves, and students easily forget the subject matter being taught. If students learn actively and in groups, students will work together and help each other to understand a problem. Through these interactions students will exchange ideas and exchange knowledge and ideas when studying a subject matter and active in solving a math problem in particular statistical material. One model of learning that engages students to interact with other students, mutual cooperation, and mutual responsibility and to train students to understand the material through group discussion method of teaching is Gal'perin through STAD cooperative learning type approach. Gal'perin learning methods with STAD cooperative learning type approach is it in which school learning is active to form students several groups to find and solve a problem. This study is aimed to determine the application of Gal'perin learning method with STAD cooperative learning type approach through the observation of teachers and students activities. In addition, to determine learning mastery of students after the execution of statistical tests material. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach, while the kind of research is descriptive. The study conducted on 30 July to 4 August 2012 just pick one class as the research subjects in class XI IPS by 21 students at MA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. This learning is implemented in 3 sessions; they are 2 meetings to observe teachers and students activities, while 1 meeting to carry out the the final result test of students. Based on the result of analysis on teachers and students activities in implementing Gal’perin learning method through Cooperative Learning type STAD approach, learning process can be implemented well; it is by observing the percentage of teachers activity that reach 84,64% and the percentage of students activity that reach 74,66%. The result of learning obtained by students after conducted the implementation of Gal’perin learning method with Cooperative Learning type STAD approach have reached individual mastery on 16 students, while those who have not master yet are 5 students. The result of learning classically have reached classical mastery standard determined by the Ministry of Education because there are still many students reach classical mastery of 76,2%.
