- The study aimed to determine the effect of various kinds of mulch and organic fertilizer on growth and yield of potato plants. The study was conducted in the highlands of Bumiaji district town of Batu with a height 1700 m asl. This study began in April 2012 until July 2012. The study using Group Random Design arranged in a factorial with two factors. Factor I, kind of mulch (M) consists of: M0 (without mulch), M1 (straw mulch), M2 (Mulch PHP). Whereas of Factor II, kind of organic fertilizer (B) with the provisions of 20 tonnes / ha consists of: B1 (Chicken Manure), and B2 (Vegetable Waste Compost). Thus producing 6 combinations of treatments. Re-treatment about 3 times with the population of each plant treatment by 40 to require 72 samples of growth plants and 72 samples of crop plants. Observed variables on environmental factors are soil temperature, air temperature and air humidity (min-max). Observation of non-destructive variable are plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, observations of destructive are leaf dry weight, stem dry weight and leaf area. Observations harvesting components include: the number of tubers per plant, tuber diameter per bulb, tuber fresh weight per plant, and harvest. The results showed that the interaction between the kinds of mulch and organic fertilizers on the growth (plant height, leaf dry weight, leaf area) and yield (the number of tubers per plant) potato plants. Separately use kinds of mulch to give effect to stem diameter, number of leaves, stem dry weight, diameter bulbs per bulb, tuber fresh weight per plant, harvest, and relative growth rate. Likewise, organic fertilizer effect on the number of leaves, stem dry weight, diameter bulbs per bulb, tuber fresh weight per plant and harvest.
