Soybeans are used for food, drink, flavoring the taste of food, health, industrial activity up to the ranch. Therefore, it is understandable if the domestic soybean demand is very large, even to meet this demand from year to year soybean imports tend to rise. During the 1990s, there was a decrease due to reduced soybean production area of soybean cultivation due to land-use change and the relative stability of soybean productivity. One way that can be done to overcome the shortage of land is the optimization of land use that is planted in agroforestry. With this action it needs to be done by inoculating strain B. japonicum are suitable as nitrogen fixing bacteria in root nodules. In this way nitrogen fixation is expected to increase so as to reduce the decline in results in the presence of shade.&#xD; The aims of this study was to study the relationship B. japonicum isolates on biological nitrogen fixation, growth and yield of soybean crops in agroforestry systems under apple tree. The experiment was conducted at University of Muhammadiyah Malang Apple's Garden in Sengonan Village, Bumiaji Sub-District, Batu City (located on 961 m above sea level), and at University of Muhammadiyah Malang Biotech Laboratory. The experiment began in April 2010 to September 2010. The experimental design used simple RBD, with 10 levels treatment. Each level was repeated 3 times.&#xD; The results of this study indicate that B. japonicum isolates increase biological nitrogen fixation components (dry weight of nodules, number of effective nodules, soil and plant N content) in agroforestry system under apple tree. In plant growth (plant height, leaf number, leaf area, and biomass), B. japonicum isolates increase at 40 DAS, but doesn?t increase the chlorophyll content. On yield components, B. japonicum isolates increase pod number, pod weight, and seed weight, but doesn?t decrease the empty pod number and doesn?t increase seed size.
